 Golf Course Overview

Cardigan Golf Club (Clwb Golff Aberteifi) was founded in 1895 and, after celebrating its centenary in 1995, was named Wales Golf Club of the Year for 2023. Situated on elevated ground at Gwbert, around two and a half miles from Cardigan town, the 18-hole course was designed by Fred Hawtree and measures approximately 6,455 yards to a par of 72. It is a mix of links and meadowland with outstanding natural drainage, meaning the course is open year-round with no temporary greens. Spectacular views of Cardigan Bay, the Teifi Estuary, Cardigan Island and the Preseli Hills are visible from every hole, and the closing stretch of par 4s is widely considered among the most memorable in west Wales.

The club is owned and run by its members via an elected committee and is known for a warm welcome in the two-storey clubhouse. The restaurant overlooks Poppit Sands and Cardigan Bay, with a generous bar menu, Sunday lunches and full catering for societies, corporate days and charity events. Facilities include a driving range, practice area, pro shop, buggy and trolley hire and changing rooms. The club is accessed via the B4548 from Cardigan towards Gwbert-on-Sea and has hosted Welsh Golfing Union championships and international matches.

"Cardigan Golf Club is not a course that is easy to build into a golfing itinerary of Wales. It is a bit of an outlier in terms of location in the south-west corner of the Principality."

The near 70-mile trek from Aberdovey is likely to take you every minute of the suggested two hour drive whilst those who have already ventured to Tenby will face another hour in the car to reach this interesting layout which has one of the most amazing finishing stretches I have ever played with green complexes at 15, 16 and 17 utterly amazing.
